"The church of Christ at Pollock Pines and Camino"
You may wonder why we call ourselves the "Pollock
Pines-Camino" church of Christ. That part is easy to explain. Some
Christian about 20 years ago came together in the Pollock Pines community
to establish a congregation devoted to being "Christians only."
They met in the old Pollock Pines elementary school building on Pony
Express Trail. Most of the members lived in Pollock Pines. A few years
later the congregation, having outgrown the old meeting place, purchased
the land at 4600 Pony Express Trail, Camino, and built the present church
building. Since members live in both communities, as well as Cedar Grove,
Placerville, and other places, the name "Pollock Pines-Camino"
church of Christ is now used to designate the location of the
congregation.
Far more important than the geographical designation of the local
congregation is the spiritual designation. We call ourselves "church
of Christ" because we belong to Jesus and seek to follow His
teachings in their purity as taught in the New Testament. In the first
century A.D., the period of the New Testament, "Christians" were
just "the church" Jesus promised to build in Matthew 16:18.
There were not yet the divisions caused by denominationalism in all its
forms. They were simply the "church" belong to and originating
from Christ (Romans 16:16). They had no official church creed book or
policy statements other than the revealed scripture. They had no
organization larger than or smaller than the local congregation of
Christians. They loved each other, followed the teaching of Jesus and His
apostles, taught as many of their neighbors and family members they could
about the good news of salvation, and assembled regularly to commemorate Jesus'
death on the cross (Acts 2:42-44).
We just want to follow their example today, since the New
Testament is
still operative in God's will for mankind's salvation. We want to
be
"Christians only". When you attend our our simple but reverent
assemblies, you will not hear apologies for the Bible, or for the
church,
or for believing in such a thing called "truth." You can expect
to hear that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, that God
expects
sinners to repent, that Jesus is the only Savior, and the church
is the
body of the saved. You will be with people who are friendly but
imperfect.
That is why we take our faith and love of Jesus Christ seriously.
We will
not offer you entertainment, political action committees, or
financial
planning training. We will, however, offer you the Bible as the
guide to
hope and peace in Jesus Christ. A hope that looks beyond the
struggles of job, family, culture, politics, disease, and death to the
grand finale of
God's promises: Heaven and eternal life.
Come and let us welcome you and if you have questions, we can sit down as
neighbors and friends and study the higher truths of the Word of God.
